Although some of it feels like another version of Facebook or Myspace, Google+ could have some interesting uses, especially the hangout/chat feature. However, without a webcam (which I don't currently have) the hangout seems less interesting.
I compare Google+ to Facebook and Twitter Hashtags. I never used MySpace, so I have no comparison there. I find joining communities a useful way to pull together information. It comes to me, I don't have to go looking for it. I can choose how in depth I care to explore and how much time I want to put into it.
